what shaneeza and jamie learned today….
Patient A, we ran some tests with the dna and we have some good news and some bad news. the good news is that we ran a gel and we found out the result. Unfortunately, the result was that the baby will be born with Sickle Cell Anemia. We are very sorry. Another part of the good news is that there is a treatment to help the blood flow naturally.
Patient B, we researched and ran some tests. We found out that you have Monkeypox. Monkeypox is a rare desease that is mostly found in the rainforest countries in central and west Africa. Fortunately, this desease is not fatal.
~DNA testing conducted! 2 patients’ lives changed!~
Matt&Matt reporting live outside the lab where 2 patients lives have been changed. this is and update from last weeks report, where scientist were practicing for hours, preparing for today’s preformance. The frist patient was a middle aged woman, who was pregnant. She was a carrier of Sickle cell anemia, a genetic disease where the shape of the blood cells are crecent and causes high risk of blood clots, and less oxgyen for the organs. It is a very painful disease, the woman came in, inquiring about the outcome of her baby. Electrophorisis testing was conducted and it was found out that the father was also a carrier, and unforunately, the baby has sickle cell.
The second patient was a middle aged man who had pustules covering his body. Not knowing what his illness was he came to us for medical examination. We concluded it was either monkeypox, or smallpox. Monkeypox is a disease caused by a virus. It’s origin is was africa, and it is very rare. 1 out of 10 people die from this disease. Smallpox, just like monkeypox is a very contagious disease and caused by a virus. It was irradicated in 1975. If he had smallpox, it would be a disaster. That would mean the virus was back, posing the threat of an outbreak. We concluded by electrophorisis, it was monkeypox. Matt&Matt singing off.
~Doctors for a day~
Today we learned about two patients who had two different types of diseases. one was a middle aged woman who was the carrier of the sickel cell disease and the other one was a man who had pustules over his body. we conducted an experiment using gels testing dna samples. We found out that the woman was a carrier of the sickel cell disease and that her husband was also a carrier and that the baby had the sickel cell the disease. the man with the pustles had monkey pox which came from his brother-in-law which interacted with a new monkey from West Africa. Sickel Cell Anemia is a genetic disorder and is not contagious but is a very servere disease. Monkey pox is a higly contagious but rare disease that originated in Western Africa, it is a viral disorder. We had fun and learned how diseases are spread.

Dr.Star Holcombe
today i was a medical doctor.i had to examine two patients who came into the “hospital”.the first patient was aprgnant middle aged woman who was worried if her child will have sickle cell anemia because it ran in her family. her husband(the baby’s father) was not sure if it was in his family.the outcome was the baby was a carrier of sickle cell anemia. POOR KID!
The second patient hadmany petuals on his body and was not sure what he had. we came to the conclusion that he could have either smallpox which is a rare disease and monkeypox. we tested him and he had monkeypox. I think he should ask his brother in law to get tested because he interacted with the newmonkey from africa
